Capturing Love Across One of Victoria's Most Beautiful Regions

There's a quality to Ballarat that's genuinely hard to put into words. The golden light over the open landscape, the deep Australian character of the countryside, the way historic architecture sits alongside wide open skies — it's a region that feels both timeless and completely itself. I never get tired of coming here with a camera.

I'm Emma, and I've been photographing weddings across the Ballarat region for years. My style is candid and romantic — I'm not there to direct every moment or pose you in ways that don't feel like you. I'm there to follow the day as it unfolds and capture what's genuinely happening. In a region as naturally beautiful as Ballarat, that's a very easy job to love.

Why Ballarat Is Such A Beautiful Place To Get Married

Here's what a wedding day with me looks like: I show up, I blend in, and I pay close attention. I'm the quiet presence in the background catching the nervous squeeze of hands before the ceremony, the burst of laughter during speeches, the moment your person looks at you when they think no one is watching.

Ballarat has a warmth to it that brings out something real in people. Maybe it's the landscape — the big open skies, the sweeping rural views, that extraordinary golden light in the late afternoon. Whatever it is, couples tend to relax here in a way that makes for some of the most honest and beautiful images I get to make.

Venues I know and love…

I've had the pleasure of photographing weddings at some genuinely special places across the Ballarat region:

Black Cat Truffles — a truly unique and beautiful venue. The working truffle farm setting, the rustic character and the gorgeous natural surroundings make for wedding photography that feels completely one of a kind. There's a warmth and authenticity to events here that I absolutely love capturing.

Cave Hill Creek — nestled in the bush outside Beaufort, this is one of those venues that feels like a world of its own. The creek, the gardens, the natural bush setting — it's intimate and beautiful in a way that suits couples who want their day to feel like a genuine escape.

Private estates — some of my favourite Ballarat weddings have been held on private rural properties throughout the region. There's something about a country estate wedding — the wide open space, the personal atmosphere, the deep Australian landscape — that produces some of the most authentic and beautiful photography imaginable.

Not on this list? Get in touch. I know the region well and I'm always happy to explore somewhere new.

Why Ballarat?

Ballarat draws couples who want their wedding to feel genuinely Australian — unhurried, warm, and rooted in something real. It's far enough from Melbourne to feel like a proper escape, but close enough that guests can travel without drama. Many make a weekend of it, which always adds something wonderful to the atmosphere.

For photography, the region is incredibly generous. The golden hour light here is some of the best I've experienced anywhere in Victoria — the way it falls across the open paddocks and historic buildings in the late afternoon is extraordinary. Add in the beautiful rural landscapes around Buninyong, the charming character of the township itself, and the wide variety of venue styles across the region, and you have a place that suits almost any kind of couple and any kind of day.

What's included…

  • Every wedding I photograph in the Ballarat region includes:

  • Full-day coverage from getting ready through to the reception

  • A private online gallery of fully edited, high-resolution images

  • Print release for everything in your gallery

  • A calm, relaxed presence on the day — most guests won't realise I'm a photographer until they see the photos

  • Straightforward communication from your first enquiry right through to the day your gallery arrives

I travel throughout Victoria with no extra charge, and Ballarat is a region I know well — the venues, the light at different times of year, and the spots that make for the most beautiful portraits.

A few things people often ask…

Do you travel to Ballarat?

All the time — it's one of my favourite regions to work in and there's no travel surcharge for Ballarat bookings.

How far ahead should we book?

Most Ballarat couples book around 12–18 months out, particularly for spring and autumn when the light and landscape are at their most beautiful. If your date is sooner, always worth dropping me a line — I sometimes have availability that isn't listed.

Can you help us choose a venue?

Happy to. I've shot at a number of venues across the Ballarat region and have genuine thoughts on what suits different couples and different kinds of days. Feel free to talk through your shortlist with me.

What if the weather isn't perfect?

Some of my favourite Ballarat images have come from overcast days and moody skies — the soft light is beautiful and the landscape looks extraordinary in those conditions. We'll work with whatever the day brings.
